Parish Council Visit - Mock meeting!

Class 4 were privileged to have a visit from 3 of our parish councillors this week to enable them to experience democracy in action as part of our continuing study of British values.

The class learnt about how parish councils work and were organised into a council, with an elected chair and vice chair.  With the experience of the real councillors, they were able to appreciate first-hand how to organise a meeting and all got to learn valuable debating, listening and speaking and listening skills.  The councillors were impressed with our children’s knowledge about local issues and their passion, not only for their school, but its surrounding locality.

Future plans to work together again are afoot, with 6 junior parish councillors from school due to join part of a full parish council meeting later in the month.  Maybe a future politician or prime minister is amongst us!
